CityFibre commences new full fibre network build in Middlesbrough
The project should be completed by 2024.
London-based provider CityFibre has begun construction on a full fibre network in Middlesbrough.
The £42 billion infrastructure will stretch all across the town and aims to make a full fibre service available to virtually every home and business there.
Map Group are carrying out the build on CityFibre’s behalf and will work closely with both Middlesbrough council and local groups.
Work is now underway in the Brambles Farm and Thorntree areas of Middlesbrough who will be the first to benefit from the service.
It’s expected to take a few weeks to complete the work in each different area of town and the overall aim is to have the project completely finished by 2024.
“I’m immensely excited and proud to see work getting underway in Middlesbrough. This is the start of an exciting new chapter for Middlesbrough as it gets ready to thrive in the digital age,” said Steph Carter-Smith, CityFibre’s city manager for Middlesbrough.
“It’s important to remember that any short-term disruption will pay off in the long term. Once the network’s built, it will serve the community’s connectivity needs for decades to come.”
This rollout forms part of CityFibre’s £4 billion Gigabit City Investment Programme which wants to give eight million UK homes access to a full fibre network.
