Openreach Full Fibre coming to 56 new homes

Openreach has announced 56 new UK FTTP Broadband Rollout areas.

Openreach will bring fibre to the premises (FTTP) - the fastest form of broadband available - to 56 new locations.

56 towns and villages have been added to Openreach's £15 billion rollout, which means more of the UK's population will have access to gigabit-capable broadband speeds.

At the moment, 58,000 premises per week are getting full-fibre capability, which is expected to peak at 75,000 at some point within the rollout.

What is FTTP?

Fibre to the premises is the alternate broadband service to fibre-to-the-cabinet. With the former, the optic fibre line will run from a manhole cover in your area straight to your house. With the latter, a fibre cable will run from an exchange to a green cabinet near you, and then an ADSL (copper phone line) will be used to transport your broadband to you. Fibre-to-the-cabinet is extremely common, and your broadband speed is largely dependent on how close you are to your green cabinet. FTTP offers considerably higher speeds due to the fibre optic cable serving your premises directly.
